Superfoods and Weight Loss – An Introduction

Even if you’ve never heard of superfoods, you should know about them by the end of this article. Before you continue, superfoods are typically plant foods that contain phytonutrients (plant nutrients). Additional nutrients run the list from vitamins, minerals and special fibers. These plant foods are super because they are to good for you. It’s also worth mentioning that studies have identified properties in superfoods that can help in preventing and treating diseases. The list of healthy benefits is long and impressive, and on top of that many superfoods will help you lose weight.


We have mentioned yogurt in other article series about superfoods and weight loss, but we want to say more because there’s a lot to talk about with yogurt. We’d like to talk about a lesser known form of yogurt, however, that comes all the way from Russia. This yogurt is known as Kefir and if there’s one yogurt you should consume, it’s this one because it’s extremely healthy. Kefir is unlike any yogurt you’ve ever tasted. The consistency of Kefir is very different from the regular yogurt drinks in the West. This liquid yogurt is rich in calcium, probiotic beneficial bacteria, vitamins and minerals.



This plant is particularly popular among those looking for nutritious, whole grains. Some grocery stores still don’t carry it, but it can generally be found with some effort. Quinoa is a whole grain product from long ago, dating backing at least two thousand years. Quinoa is an excellent nutritional source of fiber, iron, protein, and Vitamin E. There are areas of the world where quinoa is one of the oldest whole foods. In these times of old, there was no obsession with weight control or dieting. The selenium and vitamin E plus probiotic factors in the fiber are all weight reducing and controlling


Bananas are superfoods that you need to be eating on a daily basis. Bananas have high amounts of phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. These minerals have been found to be a good source of energy and provide support to the heart and muscles. Another amazing property of bananas has to do with research conducted in Japan. Bananas, according to the study, have what’s known as tumor necrosis factor or TNF. Necrosis means death or causing death, and it is believed that the TNF in bananas can cause tumor cells to die. The study also found a direct correlation between the ripeness of the fruit and TNF concentration. The riper the bananas and the more dark spots present, the higher concentration of TNF they have.


The Paleo diet is one diet that you can follow because it will let you eat various superfoods to lose weight. Sure, you can follow other diets, but because of its main premise, the Paleo diet appears to be the best fit if you want to lose weight with the help of superfoods. Early humans consumed natural foods, most of them plants. You can lose weight using the same approach by consuming superfoods as our ancestors.
